Mosaics Restoration

Analysis and diagnosis

Before the intervention, a careful investigation was carried out on the state of conservation of the mosaics, highlighting phenomena of partial detachment of the tiles, chromatic alteration of the mortar, and accumulation of surface deposits due to thermo-hygrometric variations and the aging of the materials.

Conservative treatment

The restoration included:

  • Selective cleaning of surfaces using low-impact systems to remove residues and encrustations without compromising the original colors.
  • Consolidation of unstable sections using micro-injections of mortar compatible with the historic mortar.
  • Replacement of missing tiles with Venetian glass and enamel of similar composition and color, chosen to ensure material and visual continuity.
  • Application of a breathable final protective coating, useful for preserving the work from future environmental changes.

Result and meaning

The restoration has restored the mosaics to their original brilliance of color and renewed legibility of the sacred scenes, enhancing the light and depth of the mosaic design.
The project is part of the long tradition of our workshop, which for generations has combined Florentine artistic craftsmanship and contemporary technical skills in the restoration and creation of mosaic works for the international sacred heritage.
